GTA 6 runs on the PS5 Pro, because the Pro is a PS5 and GTA 6 launches on PS5. The store listing also carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label. What nobody outside Rockstar has is a frame rate: neither Rockstar nor Sony has published a single performance number for any console, and the 60 fps figure circulating online comes from reports built on unnamed sources.
What is confirmed
Four things, each of them attributable.
as of August 28, 2026
GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 Pro is a PS5, so it plays the same game. There is no separate Pro edition.
The PlayStation Store listing carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label.
Sony and Rockstar published a joint plays best on PS5 message covering DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers, sound through the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech and near-instant load times from the console SSD.
Rockstar stated that GTA 6: An Extended Look, released August 27, 2026, was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
The gap between that list and what people actually want to know is the whole point of this page.
What PS5 Pro Enhanced actually means here
The label is real. What it delivers in GTA 6 specifically is not described anywhere.
PS5 Pro Enhanced is a platform label Sony applies to games with Pro-specific work. Sony's own description of the label is generic: improved performance, more stable frame rates and sharper resolutions. That sentence is written for the label, not for GTA 6.
Neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what the Pro version of GTA 6 does differently. No resolution, no frame rate, no rendering feature, no comparison against the base PS5. The label tells you Rockstar did Pro-specific work. It does not tell you what that work produced.
This is a case where a real, verifiable fact gets stretched into a claim it cannot carry. PS5 Pro Enhanced is confirmed. GTA 6 runs better on a PS5 Pro in a way anyone can quantify today is not.
The label on the store listing
GTA 6 carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced tag on its PlayStation Store page, with no accompanying technical detail from Rockstar.
Which brings us to the number everybody is arguing about.
The frame rate question, sourced honestly
There is no official number. There are two competing report chains, and they are not equally strong.
The 60 fps claim is the older one and the weaker one. It traces back to reporting on data attributed to an unnamed PlayStation engineer, describing GTA 6 as being optimised to reach 60 fps specifically on the PS5 Pro. No named source, no document anyone can inspect, and no confirmation from Rockstar or Sony in the months since. Treat it as a leak that has never been stood up.
The 30 fps account is newer and better attributed, though still second-hand. In August 2026 Rockstar ran hands-off preview sessions. Brazilian creator Davy Jones visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh and watched Rockstar North development lead and co-director Rob Nelson play the game with a frame counter on screen, reporting 30 fps on the console versions shown. Asked about a 60 fps option at launch or later, Nelson did not commit and said he would need to check with the technical team. That account was published by Flow Games and picked up by Kotaku and Push Square.
So the best-sourced signal today points to 30 fps at launch with a performance mode undecided. It is still a report of a private demo rather than a published specification, and a demo build in August is not a shipping build in November.
Where the 60 fps claim came from
Reporting on data attributed to an unnamed PlayStation engineer, claiming GTA 6 would reach 60 fps only on the PS5 Pro.
26 minutes of PS5 footage is a real data point. It is also the most over-read data point in this whole topic.
Rockstar released GTA 6: An Extended Look on August 27, 2026, roughly 26 minutes of gameplay, and stated it was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. That rules out the usual suspicion that a publisher is showing a PC target render.
It does not tell you the frame rate. Capture footage is delivered at a fixed video frame rate regardless of what the console was doing, video compression flattens motion detail, and nothing in the release states which PS5 model was used or whether any capture-time settings differed from a retail build.
Reading a performance mode out of a marketing video is guesswork dressed as analysis. The video is strong evidence about how the game looks on a PS5. It is not evidence about how many frames it draws.
Captured on PS5
Rockstar's statement that the Extended Look footage was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5.
Which leaves a short list of things that are genuinely open.
What is still open
Five things nobody outside Rockstar knows on August 28, 2026. If a page answers any of them with a number, that is the tell.
The frame rate on base PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
The resolution on any of those four machines.
Whether a performance mode exists at launch, later, or at all.
What the PS5 Pro Enhanced label delivers in GTA 6 specifically.
Whether the launch build behaves like the August preview build.

FAQ
Does GTA 6 run on the PS5 Pro?
Yes. The PS5 Pro is a PlayStation 5, and GTA 6 launches on PlayStation 5 on November 19, 2026. There is no separate Pro version or Pro edition to buy.
Is GTA 6 PS5 Pro Enhanced?
The PlayStation Store listing carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, so Rockstar has done Pro-specific work. What that work delivers in GTA 6 has not been described by Rockstar or Sony.
Does GTA 6 run at 60 fps on PS5 Pro?
Not confirmed. Rockstar has published no frame rate for any console. The 60 fps claim comes from reporting on an unnamed PlayStation engineer, and a better-attributed August 2026 preview account points to 30 fps with a performance mode undecided.
Will there be a performance mode?
Unknown. Asked about a 60 fps option at launch or later during an August 2026 preview session, Rockstar co-director Rob Nelson reportedly said he would need to check with the technical team. That is the most current answer anyone has.
The Extended Look was captured on PS5, so does it show the real performance?
It shows how the game looks running on a PS5, which Rockstar confirmed. It cannot show you the frame rate, because captured video runs at a fixed rate no matter what the console was doing, and Rockstar did not state which PS5 model was used.
Should I buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
We are not answering that, and not out of politeness. There is no published performance data for GTA 6 on any console, so any recommendation today would be built on nothing. Once real numbers exist, this page will carry them.
