The GTA 6 map: what is confirmed and what is guesswork
Rockstar has confirmed the setting but has never published a map size for GTA 6. The official material names the state of Leonida and six regions inside it, with Vice City at the center. Every square mile figure you see online, including the ones on this page, is a community estimate that Rockstar has not verified. The detailed full map that started circulating in August 2026 is not official either, and this page explains why we leave it alone.
What Rockstar has officially shown
These points come from Rockstar's own website, the official store listings and the Extended Look. Nothing here is reconstructed from fan projects or from leaked material.

The state of Leonida
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional US state modeled on Florida. Rockstar's official synopsis describes a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state.
Vice City is the central city of Leonida and the only city Rockstar puts front and center in its marketing copy. The official area text calls it the sun and fun capital of America and names neighborhoods such as Ocean Beach, Little Cuba and the VC Port.
Rockstar's official site splits Leonida into six areas and gives each one its own description: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. In short, the Keys are the island chain in the south, Grassrivers is the Everglades style wetland, Port Gellhorn is a faded Gulf coast port town, Ambrosia is the industrial area beside Lake Leonida, and Mount Kalaga National Park is the northern backcountry. What you get per region is a name, a mood and a rough position, not a scale and not a border.
Jason and Lucia are the two protagonists. The official store description says an easy score goes wrong and they end up relying on each other across the state.
The 26 minute presentation put names to individual places inside those regions rather than to new regions. Coverage of the video picked out the Effluvia rooftop bar, the Megamundo television headquarters, the Bayside neighborhood and swamp areas reached by boat. Rockstar still stated no map size and still published no full map image.
This is the most searched map question and the one with the weakest evidence behind it.

Official size figure from Rockstar: none
Community estimate for Leonida: about 118 to 132 square miles, roughly 300 to 340 square kilometres
Commonly cited community figure for GTA 5: about 49 square miles
Implied ratio: roughly two to three times GTA 5, depending on which estimate you use and whether water is counted
Newer figures quoting roughly 1.5 to 2 times GTA 5 have circulated since August 2026, and many of them are measured off the leaked map image rather than off official material
Rockstar has never stated a map size for any Grand Theft Auto game, and it has not done so for GTA 6 either. There is no official number to quote.
What circulates instead are community measurements. Fan mapping projects estimate the Leonida landmass at roughly 118 to 132 square miles, which is about 300 to 340 square kilometres. The commonly cited figure for the GTA 5 map is around 49 square miles, and that number is also a community measurement rather than a Rockstar statement.
Two things make these estimates soft. Water counts differently depending on who measures, and nobody outside Rockstar has a scale reference for the finished game. Treat the range as an order of magnitude, not a specification.
The size argument matters less than what the map is actually made of, which is where the official material is thin.
What is still unknown
Being clear about the gaps is more useful than filling them with guesses.

Whether the whole state is open from the start or unlocks in stages
How much of the surface is water, swamp or unusable terrain
Which counties, districts or towns exist inside the six named regions
Whether interiors are enterable at the scale people expect
Whether the map expands after launch, as it did in GTA Online
The leaked map of August 2026, and why it is not on this page
You will run into a detailed full map of Leonida on almost every fan site right now. Here is the event behind it, and here is why we describe it instead of showing it.

August 18, 2026: a group posting under the name Cyberleek starts releasing GTA 6 gameplay clips and screenshots, among them an image presented as the finished Leonida map. More videos follow over the next days.
August 20, 2026: Take-Two files DMCA subpoena requests in federal court in the Southern District of New York, seeking account records from Microsoft and Discord to identify who is behind the campaign.
September 4, 2026: the deadline those filings set for the records to be produced.
Throughout: takedown notices go out against accounts sharing the material, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two publishes a statement saying which parts are genuine.
Those takedowns are the reason many pages now call the leaked material confirmed. That reasoning is weaker than it looks. A copyright action covers the whole package and says the material touches Rockstar property. It does not certify that one particular image inside that package is the shipping game's map.
The split matters. The gameplay clips are widely treated as genuine. The map image is the contested part, and the fan mapping projects that have cross referenced Leonida from official trailers since 2022 are the ones raising the objection, because area names on the image never appeared in any official material. Reporting also indicates the footage comes from an older build rather than the version launching in November.
So four things are true at the same time, and each one on its own is enough to leave the image alone. It is Rockstar property under active takedown, which makes reproducing it a legal problem rather than a scoop. It is disputed by the people who have done the most careful public mapping work on Leonida. It appears to come from an older build, so even a genuine image could describe a world that no longer ships. And it cannot be checked, because neither you nor we can hold it against anything official before release.
So we hold the line. This page carries no area names, no district names and no geography taken from that image, and it will not while the situation looks like this.
Which leaves the practical question: how do you tell a sourced map claim from a merely confident one?
How to judge a map claim you find elsewhere
A short test that works for any GTA 6 map page, including this one.
as of August 28, 2026
Does the page say where the number came from? An unattributed square mile figure is a guess in a suit.
Does it separate Rockstar statements from fan reconstructions? If both sit in the same list, the page is not being straight with you.
Does it label leaked material as leaked? Presenting the August 2026 map as an official reveal is the single most common error right now.
Does it carry a date? Map claims from 2024 are describing a different information state than August 2026.
Does it show a full detailed map? Rockstar has not released one, so that map came from somewhere else.
The release date is fixed at November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, so the wait for real answers is measured in weeks, not years.
FAQ
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has not said. Community mapping projects estimate roughly 118 to 132 square miles, about 300 to 340 square kilometres, but that is an estimate and not a confirmed figure.
Is the GTA 6 map bigger than GTA 5?
Almost certainly yes, but the exact factor is unconfirmed. Community estimates put Leonida at roughly two to three times the commonly cited GTA 5 figure of about 49 square miles. Both numbers come from fans, not Rockstar.
Which locations are officially confirmed?
The state of Leonida and six regions named on Rockstar's official site: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Individual places such as the Megamundo headquarters were shown in the Extended Look on August 27, 2026.
Has Rockstar released a full GTA 6 map?
No. As of August 28, 2026 there is no official full map image. The detailed map circulating since August 18, 2026 comes from the Cyberleek leak, sits under Take-Two takedown action, and its authenticity is disputed by long running fan mapping projects.
Is the whole map open from the start?
Unknown. Rockstar has not commented on how the state unlocks, and previous games have handled this differently.
When will we know for sure?
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Reliable measurements will only exist once players can move through the finished world.
