GTA 6 is not in Xbox Game Pass and not in PlayStation Plus. Neither Rockstar, nor Microsoft, nor Sony has announced a subscription version, for launch day or for any date after it. The game arrives on November 19, 2026 as a purchase, $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Take-Two's chief executive has spent years explaining in public why new premium releases do not go into subscriptions on day one, and nothing about GTA 6 points to an exception.
The short answer
Four facts settle the question. Everything below is the detail behind them.
as of August 28, 2026
Not on Xbox Game Pass. No tier, not at launch, and no announcement of a later date.
Not on PlayStation Plus. Not in the Game Catalog, not in Extra, not in Premium.
You buy it. $79.99 for the Standard Edition, $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, and the same figures in euros.
A subscription changes nothing about the release itself. November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with preloading from November 12.
Why Take-Two keeps saying no
This is not a rumor that eventually got settled. It is a position the publisher has repeated in public for years, and the reasoning is about money rather than about platforms.
2022: the economics do not work
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said putting a new premium title into a subscription service on the day it launches does not make sense to the company, because it does not believe consumers are prepared to pay for that. In the same conversation he allowed that subscriptions can suit catalogue titles, meaning older games that have been on the market for a while.
Asked whether Microsoft putting Call of Duty into Game Pass on release day would shift Take-Two's position, Zelnick said it would not, because his company's decisions are rational. He accepted that a premium title released into a subscription day and date would pull people into that subscription for a while, and still declined to do it.
On April 21, 2026 Xbox cut Game Pass Ultimate from $29.99 to $22.99 a month and PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99. In the same announcement it said future Call of Duty games would no longer join at launch and would instead arrive around a year later. The single biggest example of a day one blockbuster inside a subscription was pulled back by the company that built it.
Which leaves the question of what you actually pay instead.
What GTA 6 costs instead
Standard Edition: $79.99, or 79.99 euros.
Ultimate Edition: $99.99, or 99.99 euros.
Launch platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC release date has been announced.
There are two editions and both are purchases. The Standard Edition is $79.99, or 79.99 euros. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99, or 99.99 euros, and adds in game content rather than earlier access. Preorders opened on June 25, 2026.
Preloading starts on November 12, 2026, a week before release. Physical copies ship from the same date and carry a download code in the box rather than a disc. At no point in that chain does a subscription appear.
GTA 5 was on Game Pass, and then it was not
This is where most of the confusion starts. An older GTA game genuinely did sit in both subscriptions, on and off, which is a very different thing from a new one launching there.
April 15, 2025: GTA 5 joins Game Pass again
It arrived for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and, for the first time, PC Game Pass, with the Enhanced version included on PC. Reports at the time noted it had already been on the service twice before, so this was at least its third run.
Both the Enhanced and Legacy editions left Game Pass exactly one year later, about seven months before GTA 6 arrives. Subscribers who wanted a replay before the sequel had to buy the game.
November 18, 2025: GTA 5 joins the PS Plus Game Catalog
It went into the Extra and Premium tiers, at least the third time it had been in that catalog. No removal date has been published, so check the catalog inside the PlayStation Plus app for the current status rather than trusting an article, this one included.
Possibly, years from now. That sentence is speculation and we are marking it as such, because nobody with the authority to decide it has said anything. What can be described is the pattern. Take-Two has been open about subscriptions suiting catalogue titles, and GTA 5 was let into both Game Pass and PS Plus once it was old. Applying that pattern to GTA 6 would place any subscription appearance several years after November 2026, not several months.
Two conditions would have to be met first. The game would need to stop earning at full price, which for a Rockstar release takes a very long time, and Microsoft or Sony would need to pay Take-Two enough to make the swap worth it. Neither looks close in 2026.
FAQ
Is GTA 6 coming to Xbox Game Pass?
No. There is no Game Pass version at launch and none has been announced for any later date. GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026 as a $79.99 purchase.
Will GTA 6 be on PS Plus?
No. It is not in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Sony has announced no plan to add it. Buying the game is the only way to play it.
Was GTA 5 on Game Pass?
Yes, several times. Its most recent run began on April 15, 2025 and ended on April 15, 2026, when both the Enhanced and Legacy editions left the service.
Is GTA 5 still on PS Plus?
It was added to the Extra and Premium catalog on November 18, 2025 and no removal date has been published. Catalogs rotate quietly, so check inside the PlayStation Plus app for the current answer.
Is Game Pass still worth it for GTA fans?
That depends on everything else you play, and we are not going to pretend to know. The GTA specific facts are these: GTA 5 left Game Pass on April 15, 2026, GTA 6 will not launch there, and Ultimate has cost $22.99 a month since April 21, 2026.
Could GTA 6 come to Game Pass in a few years?
It is possible and it is unannounced. Take-Two has said subscriptions can suit older catalogue titles, and GTA 5 was eventually allowed into both services. Anyone naming a year for GTA 6 is guessing.
