Rockstar has not confirmed crossplay for GTA 6. There is also nothing at launch for crossplay to apply to, because GTA 6 ships as a single-player game with no announced online mode. This page separates what Rockstar has actually said from the pattern set by GTA Online and Red Dead Online over the last thirteen years.
The short answer
Four lines, and none of them require a guess.
as of August 28, 2026
Crossplay for GTA 6: not confirmed by Rockstar. No announcement, no store listing, no interview.
Online mode at launch: not announced. Rockstar and Sony have both described GTA 6 as a single-player experience.
Without a multiplayer mode, the crossplay question has nothing to attach to on November 19.
Precedent: no Rockstar title has ever supported crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox.
The rest of this page is the evidence behind those four lines.
What Rockstar has actually said
Very little, and that is the finding rather than a gap in our research.
Rockstar's official GTA 6 material covers the release date, the two console platforms, the editions and the pre-order bonus. Crossplay is not mentioned in any of it.
What Rockstar has said instead points the other way. Ahead of pre-orders opening, Rockstar and Sony described GTA 6 as delivering a deeply engaging single-player experience on PS5. Take-Two has used the same framing on its own channels. Neither statement mentions multiplayer, servers, or cross-platform anything.
That leaves an odd shape to the question. Crossplay is a multiplayer feature. GTA 6 as announced today has no multiplayer to make cross-platform. Anyone answering yes or no with confidence right now is answering a question Rockstar has not yet put on the table.
Single-player framing
Rockstar described GTA 6 as a single-player experience with no word on an online mode at launch.
So the useful evidence is not a statement. It is thirteen years of how Rockstar runs its online games.
GTA Online has never had crossplay
This is the strongest signal available, and it is a long one.
GTA Online launched in October 2013 and has been re-released across two console generations plus a separate PC line. In all that time, PlayStation, Xbox and PC players have never been able to share a session with each other. Rockstar has never announced a plan to change that.
The only crossplay that exists in GTA Online is between PC storefronts. Someone on Steam, someone on the Rockstar Games Launcher and someone on the Epic Games Store can meet, because all three run the same PC build against the same servers. That is store-to-store, not platform-to-platform.
Within a console family it works differently again. PS4 and PS5 players can meet only when both run the same version, and the same applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series. The 2025 Enhanced update on PC split that player base further by separating Legacy and Enhanced pools.
How crossplay works in GTA 5 Enhanced
A breakdown of which GTA Online populations can and cannot meet after the Enhanced release, including the PC storefront exception.
Red Dead Online launched as a beta in November 2018 and ran for years as Rockstar's second live multiplayer game. It never supported crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox and PC either. Cross-generation play worked inside a family, PS4 with PS5 and Xbox One with Xbox Series, and stopped there.
That matters more than it looks. Red Dead Online was built after crossplay had already become common elsewhere. Rockstar shipped it separated anyway, and left it that way through its entire update cycle.
Red Dead Online crossplay
No cross-play and no cross-progression between PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Cross-generation only.
None of that predicts GTA 6. It does tell you which way the burden of proof runs.
What would have to happen for crossplay to appear
Not a prediction. A list of the things that would need to become true first, so you can recognise real news when it arrives.
Rockstar announces an online or multiplayer mode for GTA 6. Nothing exists today.
That mode reaches a public release. GTA Online arrived 14 days after GTA 5, Red Dead Online about five weeks after Red Dead Redemption 2, so the gap can be short or long.
Rockstar states cross-platform support explicitly, in a newswire post or a support article rather than in a preview.
Sony and Microsoft certify it, which is routine today but still a step.
A PC version exists if PC is meant to be part of it. None has been announced.
When any of those five moves, this page changes and carries the date of the change.
FAQ
Can PS5 and Xbox players play GTA 6 together?
Not as things stand. Rockstar has not confirmed crossplay, and GTA 6 launches without an announced online mode, so there is no shared multiplayer to join in the first place.
Has Rockstar ruled out crossplay for GTA 6?
No. Rockstar has said nothing either way. Not confirmed and ruled out are different things, and we keep them apart.
Did GTA Online ever have crossplay?
Not between PlayStation, Xbox and PC, in thirteen years and across two console generations. The only exception is PC to PC across the Steam, Rockstar and Epic storefronts, which run the same build.
What about Red Dead Online?
Same picture. No crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox and PC for its entire lifetime. Cross-generation play inside one console family worked, nothing beyond it.
Will there be cross-progression, so my save moves between consoles?
Nothing has been announced. Cross-progression is a separate feature from crossplay and Rockstar has not mentioned either one for GTA 6.
Why do some sites give a clear yes or no?
Because a definite answer performs better than an honest one. There is no announcement to base either answer on, and every confident page on this topic is filling a blank.
